HARLEY STREET 2
Gravity Architects were commissioned to redesign and manage the refurbishment of a Grade II listed building. Located in the heart of Harley Street, London’s medical hub, no 51 Harley Street was refurbished to a ‘state of the art’ aesthetic clinic with private day-surgical facilities, ranging from non-surgical treatments, cosmetic and plastic surgery, stem cells, genetics, women’s wellness and dermatology.
We stripped back a number of later additions including a suspended ceiling, walls and intrusive internal partitions and retained as far as possible, the original features and integrity of the original ground and basement level. Our designs embraced the pure form and structure of the internal space to provide a clinical and compliant environment required for our clients end needs.
At entrance level from Harley Street, the ground floor contained an entrance lobby reception, waiting area with rest room facilities and three main consultancy rooms (one of which requiring a ‘smart glass screen’ to retain a visual vista externally into the original features within the building. A side entrance from Harley Place provided a secondary entrance for staff. The basement accommodated a procedures room, to carry out non-surgical treatments and cosmetic and plastic surgery, recovery rooms, consultancy rooms and a hyperbaric oxygen therapy room. Specialist surgical equipment was considered and co-ordinated with the specialist healthcare consultant Aileen Hogan, such as surgical lighting equipment, scrub sinks and changing areas.
